Hi! Thanks for taking the time to learn About Momma’s Happy Place! I’m Cortney! I’m a new momma and a law student, who is currently taking a break from school (just what is best for us right now).
About Momma’s Happy Place
WHY I CREATED THIS BLOG?
I created this blog so that I could share some of my interests, like all things beauty. I am doing this as a creative outlet mostly. I see this blog as a lifestyle blog because I intend to share some topics and experiences that are relevant to me at this time in my life. I have had so many tough life experiences that I have carried with me, so I hope I am brave enough to share some of those things as I grow more comfortable here. The obvious relevant topic to me is motherhood, of course! Being a mom is way harder than I thought it would be and my son is still just a baby! I can’t imagine all of the changes and adjustments we both have to make as he grows and develops (scary)!
I figured it would be a good idea to blog because all too frequently I would start to post a picture on instagram and I would surpass the word limit and end up not posting. The same could be said on Facebook because my updates would look like mini paragraphs haha.
Another push was witnessing my boyfriend’s eyes glazing over as I talk about beauty-related topics or something I saw that inspired me on YouTube (my go to place for staying up to date with beauty topics). I just don’t have anyone close to me as obsessed with beauty topics as I am. I also don’t have any close friends who are mothers yet.
COOKING AND BAKING
I have a lot of interests that include gluten-free baking (yes, unfortunately I have a sensitivity to gluten) and cooking. I am not a pro, but I know my way around a basic recipe!
I love languages! I took a lot of Spanish courses in high school and college. I wanted to get a minor in Spanish, but it would have taken longer to graduate (I had already been in college for five years). Even so, it is one of my life goals to become fluent in Spanish. My son is mixed (his father is Salvadoran), so I think it’s important for him to learn Spanish and to be connected with his culture. But, I also want to share that with him. His father, unfortunately doesn’t speak Spanish fluently, but his parents speak to my son in Spanish, which is nice.
I aspire to read the Bible cover to cover. I am so bad about reading the Bible. Sometimes it feels intimidating, it’s such a big book! I know some people see religion as a judgy (I know, not a word haha) institution that isolates people, but I consider myself as a spiritual person who is inspired to live and love like Jesus did. I don’t want to impose my beliefs in any way, but I hope I won’t offend anyone if my faith comes up when it’s relevant to a post I share. My faith has gotten me through so much, and I couldn’t have gotten to this point as a person without it, as a source of strength.
I also like to read! I haven’t had the opportunity to become absorbed in a good book lately (toddler mom life), but I miss it. I prefer fiction books to get away from real life. I also avoid the news because of that (my heart can’t take it; I’m sensitive and super empathetic by nature). I love a good love story (yes, I’m cheesy).
I hope you feel like you got to know a little more about me! You can also check out my Welcome Page here, if interested.
